hay alll:
Well I've seen the rather amazing mac support take off recently and am considering picking one up when I can scrape the cash together, but I have a few questions first my friends were unable to answer:
1: language support: I'm a linguist and as such need to write in french, spanish, german and catalan on a regular basis, do macs have support for an international keyboard that i can switch to on the fly. Does voice over have extra language voices, what do they sound like and worse, do I have to pay for them. Finally are there language dictionaries for the mac which are easy to use and comprehensive.
2: I've heard mac msn support with voice over is a bit dodgy is this correct? Like it won't read incoming messages and you can't voice chat or send files ETC, can any mac user comment on that.
3: My friend always has to go into the shell to do file management such as cutting and pasting and ETC, why is this not as seemless as it is on windows?
I'm looking for a machine that will work consistantly and I won't have to spent more time fidling than I do using the thing. any help would be apreciated.

Hi
There is multi-lingual Voiceover and international keyboard support, but I'm not sure of its capabilities. If you wish to communicate using MSN Messenger, your best bet is to use an application called Adium, which is a multi-protocol messenger like Miranda for Windows. It is extensible via plugins, one of which may allow MSN audio and video conferencing. Adium can be configured to speak incoming messages automatically, using the system's built-in tts mechanisms. The conversation log is easily readable with Voiceover.
The default file manager on the Mac is called Finder. It allows 'copy-and-paste', but not 'cut'. Why Apple designed it this wey, I do not know. I understand that there are other file manager apps that do have a 'cut' option.
HTH,
Dave
also doen't hesitate to call up apple support and ask them your questions.
